This was one of his fond memories of Santa Catalina Island a.k.a. the Island.
When my dad lived on "the Island," he had a nino who was called El Austriliano. He owned a boat and my dad used to go to the mainland with him to pick up groceries. They would return to the Island and deliver groceries from the boat. He was just a kid.
When we went to The Island on the big white steamer. On arriving at Avalon to dock, the island children would jump in the water and swim up to the ship, "Throw a coin mister, throw a coin."My dad and my uncle Tim did this as a children. Fond Memories
I never got to tell my dad Maria worked at Avalon High School. I'm sure it would have made him smile, and fluff his feathers a little.
